it's the time of the year.

Not sure if you Blippers know about our Japanese food culture, but teriyaki eel & rice is one of our traditional and very luxury dishes. Good eels restaurants are specialising only on eels and nothing else to serve, but very very popular. And the best eels are available around this time of the year.

Today, I went to this very old and popular teriyaki eels restaurant in Asakusa, Tokyo. Asakusa itself has got so many old places, but this restaurant has really long history as it opened during Edo era, approx. 250 years ago.

The owner of the restaurant told me that serving a good / fresh eel is nothing special. What makes it taste so specially good is its sauce. It has been using same sauce for 250 years, adding bit by bit with a same recipe. The sauce is the history of this teriyaki eels restaurant.

I truly enjoyed this meal. the eel, the sauce, and the owner's talk. Everything was so japanese 'shitamachi' (East End) and very local. : )
