Greg
During a walk through Downtown Greg asked me for spare change.
We talked to each other for a while and I became a witness of another story of homelessness.
Greg is 40 years old and worked as a furniture mover. He saved 10000 CAD over the years.
When his mother passed away she left him another 25000 CAD.
Like many other Canadians Greg dreamed of living in his own house, so he bought a house in Calgary with a high interest rate.
Greg was paid on a per item basis when he worked as a furniture mover - the company he worked didn't pay him well.
Soon he couldn't afford to pay the interest for his house anymore, had to sell it, was laid off and eventually landed on the street.
Greg lives on the street for several years, and like many other homeless people he lives from collecting bottles and asking people
for spare change.
Throughout our conversation we discovered many similarities between us. Like me, Greg was a passionate photographer who was a proud owner of a Contax
camera system. He even gave me a Lowepro pouch, that he found in the garbage.
Greg tries to stay away from alcohol and drinks lot of tea. From time to time he finds vitamin pills in the people's garbage and uses them for himself.
We also talked about the current situation of the homeless people in Calgary and he admitted that there is a considerable amount of violence between the.
"It is because people get angry and depressed when they are on the street" he said.
