ECFA Protest

A massive demonstration was held in the middle of Taipei this afternoon in protest of a potential trade agreement between China and Taiwan. Volk and I headed down as it was only about five minutes from his apartment. The sheer number of participants was overwhelming and some had even travelled from the south of Taiwan to take part.

Surprisingly the crowds were not all that fired up and were peacefully marching down the main street. The majority of the noise was coming from a few trucks each with huge speakers placed on all sides and a couple guys yelling into a their microphones.

This particular protestor caught my eye dressed in military uniform and enthusiastically banging away on his steel pot.
