Who am I to disagree?

No Henry

Quiz night last night and once again the theme of the blip is from a question we got wrong, so pictured above we have Thomas with Annie & Clarabel , Gordon, James, Percy, Toby & Duck, but no Henry.

When longershanks was a lot younger he was a great excuse for me to get a train set. In order to convince everyone that it really wasn't just a toy for me we had a fair few Thomas the Tank Engine trains but we also managed one or two proper trains - Flying Scotsman, Sir Nigel Gresley, Silver Fox, Princess Victoria, Class 08, 37x2, 47x3, 50 & 58 Diesels, a couple of Intercity 125s......

As time moved on longershanks and youngshanks outgrew the set and Mrs L suggested that she'd like the dining room back so it was all dismantled and stored away (it still hurts to talk about this). However after the recent bedroom refurbishment it no longer has a storage hole and all the trains carriages and track are now in my office to be "sorted out". Mmmmmm, now I'm no longer working do I still need an office? Perhaps the grandchildren...... (We have no grandchildren and not even any married offspring I hear Mrs L say - not yet, I reply).

On the subject of marital disagreements, last night I got an earful while driving home from the quiz. "You were pretty horrible to David" she says "and he did really well tonight".

Our team is generally a threesome of myself, Mrs L & David, sometimes being joined by Clare to make four. Last night we were a foursome and scored 41.5 out of 50 and David did do really well. I reckon he scored 7.5 all by himself where no one else in our team knew the answer. So full praise to him, but on the other hand you can't let the boy get big headed and so it was the loss of the half point that I was "horrid" over.

To question 7 below he confidently wrote down the name of a book that nobody else had heard of and sarcastically I asked who wrote that, Jerome K Jerome? When he responded in the affirmative we looked at each other and just assumed it was a sequel that we didn't know about.

Anyway at the end of the quiz we checked the marking of our sheet we found we'd been overmarked by one and a half points, we therefore honestly reduced our score (especially as last week we found out after the event that we'd been overmarked by one point which could have meant we shouldn't have won). Our honesty was then rewarded when we were announced as winners by half a point, but before David could claim it was his half point for his half right erroneous book title I was being horrid and recounting the story to Andrew and of course I made no mention of the fact that I'd got Henry's colour wrong.

Here's the list of those we got wrong - see if you could have improved our score:

1. Which actress took the title role as a private eye in the 1991 comedy drama film VI Warshawski?
2. Which anniversary does the Youth Hostels Association celebrate in 2010?
3. In the Thomas the Tank Engine stories, what colour is Henry?
4. In which country is Pilsen, after which the beer is named?
5. Which 1987 film reworked the Cyrano de Bergerac story and starred Steve Martin as a firechief and Daryl Hannah as the object of his desire?
6. John Barrowman portrays Patrick, menacing ex-boyfriend of Angie in which TV comedy drama series?
7. Which book features a dog named Montmorency?
8. In World War II, what name was given to a fast German boat carrying guns and torpedoes?
9. Which is the second-largest state in area in the USA?

And a bonus question:

10. Crown Princess Victoria married her former personal trainer Daniel Westling in which country on Saturday? - Many thanks to marika who drew our attention to this last Saturday.

And now the plug for Andrew (who's good enough to email me the above so's I don't have to type them out:

The quiz is well & enjoyably run by Andrew and as his website says "If you're in London, Essex, Herts, Beds or Bucks - Want to hold a quiz event but can't find a quiz master? - Want a fun evening?" Then give him a call.
