"Midsummer Flower"
Wood Cranesbill is called "Midsommarblomster" in Swedish - which means Midsummer flower. This year it seems a very sensible name.
BIG is beautiful!
To avoid selfpollination this beautiful plant develops the male sexual organs before the female sexual organs (protandry - a type of sequential hermaphroditism or dichogamy. In this shot you can clearly see that the anthers (male parts) are already starting to wilt, while the female parts are at their peak - fluffy and receptive.
One Year Ago: Soon I'm on the outside, too
