Why did the goose cross the road?
I guess I have not been down to the bird sanctuary in the Esquimalt Lagoon lately. While driving through there today, I saw something that I don't think I have ever seen before - baby Canadian Geese! In every city I have lived or visited, I have seen them, been honked at by them and even slipped in the little presents they leave on the lawn. But I have never before seen their babies. I was forced to stop the car today as some of the older birds were herding some of the younger geese across the road. It was fascinating to watch as the larger geese formed a protective shield for the younger ones while on the roadway. I was fascinated by the babies, still mostly covered by down, with the distinctive colouring and feathers starting to show through. I marvelled at the sight before me until I realized that my camera was on the seat next to me instead of in my hand!! Luckily for me, after the very young geese passed by, a smaller grouping of slightly older birds came out to the grass at the side of the road with their adult protectors and allowed me the opportunity to get out of the car and snap off a few pictures.
Next time I will have the camera in my hand before I stop the car! lol
