Midi in the Midi

... on the longest day of the year. Southern France is known as the Midi because to those further north it is where the sun is at midday, midi. This was taken at the sun's highest point for this year, the lightest day of the year for this narrow street, Carrièra Escura (dark street in Occitan), I took a similar shot in midwinter - here - when the sun seemed to be shining upwards under the eaves.

And, looking back at that December blip, I laughed at my optimism - I seemed to think that winter would be over by February.... I didn't know then that we would have snow in March.

It seems strange to think it is midsummer already and we've hardly had any hot weather, but the forecast is good for the next week.
