Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Not the Hollywood Bowl

"Concert on the Lawn" was on our agenda this evening at our wonderful "Little Church with a Big Heart." This little church stands in the shadow of some mega-churches, but offers some wonderful gatherings and tonight was one of those moments.

A Bob Bennett concert was the main event and the church music team (in the photo) was the opening band. The church team ranges in age from 17 years old to 60+ and each one of them is musically gifted. The concert was more than fun even if it wasn't the Hollywood Bowl.

The music team had planned this early summer event. There's something special about sitting outdoors in the late afternoon sun with the cool breeze blowing away the haze of the day. It was just a little over a month ago that we had been in the outdoor venue of Hollywood Bowl with Scott & Peg, and man there's just something bigger than life about being outdoors surrounded by music. This evening was a small echo of that feeling. (It was a small echo of the cost, too. Tonight was free!)

A month ago, the four of us--Scott, Peg, Mr. Fun, & Rosie--ate "Subway" sandwiches outdoor before entering the "Bowl," and tonight hot dogs and chips were served on the church lawn before the concert. Lots of folks came and enjoyed the meal and the music--a moment that's now a memory.

Bob Bennett, who was the main event this evening, is not only a gifted superb musician, singer, song writer, but his storytelling was so graphic--he knows about "showing and not telling." He made us laugh till our toenails hurt and he made our eyes fill with tears as he told personal stories to lead into each song.

I'm so glad I was there.

Good night from Southern California.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
