Hotel Kazakhstan

Had an interesting evening with some American and German friends, watching the football. It was an evening of mixed emotions, despair for the Germans, Near-elation for the Americans (until that 3rd goal had been ruled out, somewhat unfairly), and I had to admit, I enjoyed the atmosphere, getting wound up by the referee. Man, I really LOVE football!

Anyway, this is the hotel Kazakhstan. I think it is a lovely building, a bit of an icon in Almaty, and supposedly earthquake proof...I hope I'm never proved right.

There is a bar here: Guns 'n' Roses. It is awful. I really loathe it, and hope never to have to go there again! I've been 3 or 4 times to many already!
