Morning Treat
Ok, note to self, next time I write a long blip, copy the text before posting. ((%*(%% just took too long and lost the whole thing *(%^&*^( And now it's very late, and I have to sleep and I will have to comment tomorrow.
So, where was I? Oh yes. Must write quicker this time.
My dad is out of hospital and recovering at home. He sounds groggy and weak but good. My mom sounds good too.
And today was a better day at work for no reason except that there were no big conflicts and I finished a few things and did them as well as I could. It always feels so good to do a good job no matter what it is.
And I had a lovely drink and chat with a friend after work.
My day started with an attempt to capture the prettiness of a poppy garden nearby. I saw this hover fly in one of the flowers and noticed that it kept returning to the same flower whenever it was blown away by the wind.
Then I saw a drop of nectar shining in the centre of another poppy. Mystery solved! Now that I've seen nectar with my own eyes, I know, I really know why that hover fly was hovering. And for a tiny instant I think I saw the world through that hover fly's eyes and that poppy looked like food.
Nature Notes
Well, pigeon notes really. Two of the three nests have been vacated. Nesting season is over for them I guess.
"My" nest is still going strong. The mom is still sitting on the nest. I have a suspicion that the eggs have hatched and she is sitting on babies keeping them warm. I saw half a shell blowing around and she seems to be fussing. Haven't been able to see the babies yet.
And I saw the big moment when the littlest chick was pushed out of the nest. It had been hanging around sitting by it's mom. It was obvious it was flying but it still came back. Then last Thursday, the dad came by and it started begging for food. The dad started chasing and pecking the chick until finally it flew away. It kept trying to come back but was finally chased off and that was that. I haven't seen it since.
It makes me sad, but only because I'm human and we never really push our chicks out of the nest, never to return. We just push them over to the next ledge so we can still see them and visit anytime we want.
