A beast!

Backblip

This fella was hanging around by the side of the road. Pity it's a little out of focus. I blame esme! She was driving, and in a hurry for some reason I can't remember, so only got this one shot.

The sun almost came out today. After another magic cooked breakfast, we headed down to explore further south of Applecross in the car, right down to Toscaig. Very picturesque down there. Lots of lambs and sheep about too, and some massive hogs!

We did a fairly easy walk in the morning and early afternoon down to Ardban and Coillegillie, possibly the most remote houses I've ever seen. Either a 20-30 minute walk from the road or, I presume, a boat round the point from Ard Dubh. People actually live there, or were at least holiday there. Very nice in the almost-sun, and spring air, but I imagine pretty wild in the winter.

After that we took our time driving up the headland towards our next B&B in Shieldaig. Stunning views down towards Torridon as you get round the point. Generally just a lovely drive, the rocks, trees, rhoddies and wee lochs etc were very picturesque, especially once the sun came out. And it was a hot sun too while it lasted, I was quite surprised.

Shieldaig was, relatively speaking, more of a tourist trap than Applecross, I felt, even though it was still very nice. A bit more accessible I guess. We had dinner at the local hotel/restaurant/pub, and then took a wander around the Shieldag peninsula when the sun came back out. More remote houses up that way too, it must be so peaceful, but a pain in the arse for getting the groceries home, especially in the winter. A bit of a trek, to say the least.

Good forecast for tomorrow, so we plan to really push the boat out, get up early and head up Beinn Alligin.
