New Sidewalk for South Hadley

Driving recently to physical therapy for my lingering stiff neck I've passed this very extended series of construction cones. South Hadley, Massachusetts, is a rather rural town whose main distinction is that Mount Holyoke College is there (from which our friend Li Li recently graduated).

The houses with their modest open lawns are quite typical of rural or suburban towns in New England. One wonders to what extent the residents will really use the new sidewalk (I'm sure it will remain one-sided, at least for the next few years)--it's far enough from the center of the very small town that few persons will be tempted to walk.
