Vegged Out

I had an interesting day whilst on a bit of a "jolly" with work. A number of managers were invited on a coach trip around fruit and vegetable growers and suppliers premises in North County Dublin.
The combination of a practically frost-free environment and the excellent sandy soil in that area has meant that it is a natural market garden area and Irish farmers have been taking advantage of this for many years.
Through the course of the day, we visited/saw/handled onions and potatoes, tomatoes, leeks, cauliflowers, peppers, lettuce, cabbages, strawberries, blueberries, plums, cherries, blackberries, raspberries, etc, etc and were treated to a nice lunch at one of the largest suppliers.
My head was swimming with numbers, but prominent among these was the fact that at one point I was standing in a greenhouse with 128,000 plants with three stalks on each, each of which will yield 28 peppers this year = 10,752,000 peppers!
Centrepiece during the delicious lunch was this Fordson Dextra vintage tractor, thought to be an early 60s model, laden with all sorts of produce picked, packed or prodded into existence within a 30 mile radius of where we stood.
It really is this bright blue and orange colour!
