Bald Eagle

The Other Direction

Most Mondays, after finishing work, I head off to the east, towards the city in search of a blip. There is plenty to photograph there and if all else fails there are some good old tourist standbys.

This evening I decided for a change to head out west and ended up in the small village of Hawarden just over the border in Flintshire. It has many associations with Gladstone.

As I walked along the main street I noticed this doorway in the wall. In very worn letters carved into the lintel is the legend - House Of Correction -

A quick bit of research tells me that it was Built in the mid eighteenth centuary to house prisoners before trial and removal to the county goal at Flint

Perhaps I should have titled this blip The House of Correction!
