Sympathetic contrasts

This doorway in part of St Thomas à Becket's church in Cliffe, Lewes, displays many contrasts that marry together to form a complete and unified whole. The carved sandstone door surrounds and weathered arch, with its delicate floral motif, the flint-faced wall surrounding it, the faded blue paintwork of the chevron doorway, and black fleur-de-lys of the hinge bracket.
