In Brief, for once...

Mac Bar

Any self-respecting gaijin (foreigner) in Hiroshima has been to Mac Bar.

It's a kind of rite of passage.

I came to Hiroshima to get married, so my wild and delinquent youth was spent in other kens, and the Mummy years started soon enough after I got here that I haven't really spent enough time there to be called a regular. Wine bars and pubs are my more usual haunts. Still, you can't help pausing and thinking about it when you walk past.

I threw up in my own garden one time I went there, at the end of a night out to celebrate my new job. The GIN & tonics there are not for the faint hearted. I suspect many people have learned the universal truth that tequila is not your friend in the shabby, sticky, dark, drunken den of iniquity that is Mac.

When you make the decision to go to Mac Bar after the age of 30, you know you should have gone home an hour ago.

Last night, our 10th wedding anniversary, i had the sense just to take the picture and pull back.

That in itself kind of makes me sad.
