Winterbourne Bassett

This marker stone lies just outside the village of Winterbourne Bassett and announces the presence of a stone circle ruin (just visible in the field on the left). The wooden signpost bears the legend 'Whyr Farm - Metalled For 1 Mile'. It looked anachronistic in 1999 and I believe it has since been replaced with a boring standard metal one (see Extra).

This is one of my own favourite shots and is extremely familiar to me as it is the wallpaper on my laptop desktop.
