Piscina
I learned today that:
The piscina is a Latin word originally applied to a fish-pond, and later used for natural or artificial pools for bathing, and also for a water tank or reservoir. In ecclesiastical usage it was applied to the basin used for ablutions and sometimes other sacraments.
I saw this for the first time today. I have been into this church in Lyddington many times, but had never noticed it. I went in with a friend, and as the saying goes, it takes a stranger (to the area) to show you the corner of your street.
I forget to look to see where it came out the other side. It reminded me of one of those little wash, rinse and dry basins in shops etc.
