Memorial Day
Today we got up early and packed for the day to take the family to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo. It's about 1 1/2 hr. trip from our house. We won season passes from our Little League for selling the most raffle tickets...so it was nice to take advantage of free passes for a fun day! I was the annoying mom and slathered the kids with sunblock, and then we were off ride-hopping. OK, so maybe I wasn't ride-hopping...I am sick enough with stomach issues when I'm NOT even on a ride. So I mainly escorted everyone around to where they wanted to go. Liam and Gary are the only real thrill seekers and want to ride the BIG roller coasters; Loren and Landon stuck with me most of the time. It's great that Discovery Kingdom has a lot to offer people who aren't roller coaster fanatics. I took a bunch of pictures & the boys won huge wiener-dog stuffed animals (that have mustard/ketchup-like designs on their backs) at the end of the night. Loren loved the water area, Liam LOVED the huge wooden roller coaster and Landon was traumatized by a deep-dropping water ride. He eventually forgave us for having him go on it (that was almost my blip photo). We got home very late for a school night (shhhh...don't tell the teachers :D)

MY BLIP PHOTO FOR TODAY WAS TAKEN AT MY FAVORITE AREA OF DISCOVERY KINGDOM---THE BUTTERFLY EXHIBIT. I'VE ALWAYS HAD A FASCINATION WITH BUTTERFLIES---ENOUGH TO HAVE ONE TATTOOED ON MY BODY :D THIS BUTTERFLY IS ONE I CONTINUE TO BE AMAZED WITH, THE 'OWL BUTTERFLY'. IT GOT IT'S NAME FROM THE PATTERN ON IT'S WING THAT RESEMBLES THE EYE OF AN OWL. IT WAS ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THIS EYE ON THE WING SCARED OFF PREDATORS WHO MIGHT HUNT THIS BUTTERFLY, CONSIDERING THE EYE RESEMBLES A PREDATOR ITSELF. HOWEVER, THERE ARE MANY NEW THEORIES ON THIS BUTTERFLY'S WINGS.
