Polissoir
This polissoir, or polishing stone, lies in a field close to the Ridgeway footpath on Fyfield Down in Wiltshire. Six thousand years ago it was used by Neolithic men over generations to keep axeheads and arrows in working order. Six thousand years, and the grooves and indentations are there on its surface for anyone to see! A true piece of history, lying in a field.
The stone was eventually stood on end to act as a monument in its own right during the late Neolithic period.
Taken with a Pentax ME and a Tokina 20-35mm/f3.5 lens using Agfa HDC 200. Scan by Kodak.
