Hawaii - Day 6

Pearl Harbor

I had been waiting to go to Pearl Harbor all week and was very excited when we finally took a trip there (even though the shuttle driver said that we were getting a late start at 8:45AM).

It was such a great experience. We got to do a lot of stuff. We viewed a short film about the bombing of Pearl Harbor and why the USS Arizona was left to lay in the Harbor where it sank.

Next we went onto a submarine that was active during the time of the Pearl Harbor attack: the USS Bowfin. We each got headsets and which guided our way through everything on the sub.

Next we took a ferry ride out the the USS Arizona memorial. It smelled of oil because the oil tank is still leaking slowly. It was eerie and really sad. There's a wall in the memorial of all of the men who died on board the battleship whose bodies are still left to lay there, undisturbed.

Then we went to an Aviation Museum that was housed in an airplane hanger that was also bombed during the Pearl Harbor Attack.

We didn't get to do everything, but I really enjoyed what we did do. It was an experience that I will NEVER forget.
