Caterpillars
Today we took advantage of the fact that the weather had seemingly forgotten that it was Bank Holiday Monday and so was dry!
We drove along the South Devon coast and after a pub lunch stopped at Slapton Sands for an ice-cream and a walk around the nature reserve.
Mr B spotted a mass of bushes which were literally covered in 1000's of these caterpillars (I would have spotted them had I not been fighting of 3 million midges!), each bush had been virtually stripped of it's leaves by these critters which were wrapped in a delicate cocoon - in the picture looks like a haze in the background.
Neither of us has ever seen a sight quite like this so spent ages looking at them and taking many, many pictures.
We're guessing they are some kind of moth but an internet search to find out which type proved fruitless so if anyone knows, we'd be very grateful!
