Hambledon
Had quite a tour round Buckinghamshire today, starting at Hambledon, which is an attractive village-often used as a film location, for films such as Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang, the remake of The Avengers and numerous T.V. programmes. Midsomer Murders was shot here.
St. Mary's Church dates from the 14th. Century. William Henry Smith, founder of the book chain W.H. Smith was a sidesman of the church and is buried in the cemetery.
From Hambledon we headed for a pub lunch at Skirmett, but unfortunately it was closed for food for the month of September! We eventually had our lunch at almost 3 p.m. by the time we found another famous watering hole- The Royal Standard of England-the Oldest Freehouse in England!! Worth the wait, we sat outside in glorious sunshine, and demolished ( well, almost!) a very fine meal.
Can't believe the weather we're having. It's been beautiful since we came down here-but maybe I shouldn't tempt fate!! It could change!
