GGW 2010 Day Three
Back-blip
One of the highlights of the spring GGW trip is the launch of the FD (Floating Dock) Robert Moran (not its official name -- I just made it up). One of our group is related to the Moran family by marriage, and the place we stay at on our trips is the last home of Robert Moran. Read about the Moran saga here. It's a classic rags-to-riches story, and would make a great movie.
When in use, the floating dock rises and falls with the tides at the end of a long stationary dock. A pivoting ramp provides access from the fixed dock to the floating dock. Each autumn, the dock is winched up the rails, above high tide level, to protect it from damage by winter storms. In the spring, it slides down the rails into the water and is maneuvered back into position at the end of the fixed dock.
I told C I thought it would be fun to ride down the rails on the dock. She did not approve.
