Pilgrims Rest
These lovely old fashioned fuel pumps are still in 100% working order and are being used daily! C&R snr stopped over to refuel the motorbike in this historical old town, where the first gold was discovered in SA.
I love the name of the Fuel Station: 'Last Chance Garage'! ;-)
In the picture is Ernie, our friend and neighbour, who, with his lady friend, joined C&R on their adventure to the Motorbike Rally in the picturesque Drakensberg mountains at the small town Graskop in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
On 22nd September 1873 Pilgrim's Rest was officially proclaimed a gold field and the scatter of tents and rudimentary shacks soon grew into a flourishing little village complete with sturdy brick houses, church, shops, canteens, a newspaper and the well-known Royal Hotel.
