Pond in Golden Gate Park
This is one of many fine spots in the middle of a city... San Francisco, of course. No matter how expensive SF becomes, it can never lose its eclectic and wonderful character. I'll blip some of my favorite spots in the City when I can. Golden Gate Park is pretty amazing.
The aurface of the pond is covered with duckweed. It is actually many millions of tiny flowering plants. One time, I was teaching a group of kids in a wetland. I was showing the teacher and most of the class a fine bird. One girl walked towards the water, thinking she could walk on the duckweed. The teacher and I saw her at the exact same moment and yelled, "Stop!" but she kept walking and sank to her chin. We got her out and into some spare dry clothes and she was fine, but .. what an experience!
