how it is

Plastic isn't pretty

Was watching 'The Genius of Design - Better Living Through Chemistry' on BBC2 last night, about how plastic excited designers in the '50s and '60s. They spoke about the monobloc plastic chair, like these, that cost about £2 each to make, get turned out by the thousands, and hang around in landfill for eternity when people get tired of them.

I hate to think about how many of them there are. They get everywhere. I regret buying mine, though they seemed like a good idea at the time. At least the dark grey ones don't show the dirt as much. The two white ones are covered in algae (they need scrubbing again), with wiggly patterns engraved by snails all over them. As you can see, no one's sat in them for a while. The grey ones do get used, but not much. They have a matching grey plastic table, which is currently covered in plant pots.

A trip to the council dump soon, I think. I feel guilty already.
