Cheers!

Belgium is famous for its beers. There are approximately 125 breweries in Belgium, ranging from big international brewers to microbreweries. Belgian breweries produce about 800 standard beers, but when you include the special one-off beers, the total number of Belgian beers is approximately 8700!

La Chouffe is a popular beer in Belgium. It is sold in large champagne-sized bottles of 750ml, which gives them an unusual presentation.

The beer is brewed by Brasserie d'Achouffe, which is based in the town Achouffe. The brewery was founded in 1982 by two brothers-in-law, Pierre Gobron and Christian Bauweraerts, as a hobby. In September 2006, the brewery was bought by brewery group Duvel Moortgat.

All the beers that are brewed by Brasserie d'Achouffe have gnomes on their label, a play on words of the town name Achouffe, as Chouffe means gnome or dwarf in a Walloon dialect.
