A new bird
Last year a pair of swans used this unpromising looking nest site to hatch a brood of seven cygnets; I think they returned early this year and the female started re-building the nest, but sadly died leaving the male alone.
(This was a separate and apparently unrelated incident to the male who died a few miles further up the river, where DH blipped the lone female the other day.)
Anyway, we've seen a pair of swans down by the Shore again recently and Dave saw the male doing that big scary curved wings and arched neck threat to a couple of other chaps. He seems to have found a new bird! And today I saw herself making herself comfortable amongst all the flotsam and just beneath the traffic lights. Hurray!
