Under the Pier

Looking for a different aspect to photograph the Pier at Altona Beach I ventured 'under' the Pier with the night lights helping me experiment with longer shutter speeds. It's been a hit n' miss affair photographically, and this has been the fun for me - you just never quite know what image you will get.

The Tide too was slowly going out on what had been a ordinary autumn day in May - the first day I had to put on the warmer Jacket, alas!

Earlier I had munched on some Fish n' Chips with a bracing hot coffee (a small treat) and sitting on the Pier watching the skyscape change into evening battling away with the daily Crossword workout. From the Pier are sights that I always enjoy - and I often end up chatting with some of the 'local lads' who use the Pier as a fishing platform (often in all types of weather). These lads range from youngsters up to a grand trooper who tells me he is 92! These boys have a good diaspora of home spun wisdom and some hilarious anecdotes.

Though it is late autumn and quite cool now, you still occassionally see a rather 'intrepid type' jump off the Pier and go for a swim in the bracing waters of the Bay into which the wooden Pier's finger points. You'd not get me swimming in May, but then again ... if you don't try you never know.

In this 15 second shot some people, who were walking their Dog strayed into the Camera's lens - to my delight.
