A-bomb Dome Hiroshima
OK, so I live in Hiroshima.
Occasionally I'm going to have to bombard you with images of atomic devastation sites.
What can I say? There is definitely more to my adopted home than it's unfortunate history, and I will try my best not to reduce it to that, but on the other hand it cannot be ignored either.
A walk through Peace Park in the early evening always shows off the ruins of the former Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall to best advantage, and you almost find our World Heritage Site picturesque, until you come to and remember that more than 200,000 people have died because of what happened right here on August 6th, 1945.
Now I don't want to get into the politics of the 2nd World War. It is certainly not a clear cut case of evil on one side and sanctity on the other.
What I do think, is that a visit to Hiroshima and seeing what is now and what was then, with your own eyes, should be a prerequisite for any person aspiring to high public office in any nation in the world.
At least then they might have an idea of what power they wield.
So there!
