Sabas and Jonathan

Sabas owns this metal salvage truck. Jonathan is his shy 11 year old son. I came across them while on a walk in the neighborhood today. We chatted though our languages differed (with Jonathan's help sometimes.)

Sabas came to pick up a washer and dryer that was left outside a home around the corner. He explained that people call him to pick up their wares destined for scrap.

The going price for scrap in LA is $120 per ton I was told by Sabas. Each truckload nets him about $90. A herculean effort.

On the other side of the truck was a hand painted sign saying "We pick up..." and a phone number. That is all the advertising he does.

To think that this man and his young son would lift these heavy machines into the truck is somewhat surreal. I offered help, and they declined. Good people, and they consented to having their picture taken.

What struck me most was the pure integrity and love between the two. Inspiring.
