Tangeman University Center
This is the Student Union building on the main campus of University of Cincinnati. The original classical building, which bore the clock tower, was built in 1937. About 10 years ago, they totally gutted the old building, and extended it, whilst retaining the classical facade on the far side, and the clock and bell tower. One of the students' complaints about the old building was that it was too dark and dingy, so one of the main aims of the architects was to bring more light into the building. The glass part of the roof lets light into a 90 ft atrium, and hence into each level of the building. I never knew the interior of the old building, but the new building, which is where I do a few of my OLLI classes, is a lovely light and airy building. It contains an 888 seat Great Hall, a 200-seat theater, game room, food court and twenty "breakout" rooms on the fourth floor.
As you can see it was a beautiful day, and many students were out enjoying the warmth and sunshine.
I have now back-blipped our Florida trip - please check them out, starting here
