Binnscarth woods

Working on a job at the moment for which we needed to get some pictures of tree bark. Now most places in Britain this is a fairly easy task but a little known fact about Orkney is that we have very few trees. When I say very few, actually I mean barely any. Ach, OK there are bugger all!

So armed with a tree identifier book (we do know what trees look like but we needed specific types), a couple of cameras, stout footwear, a picnic and a black labrador we set off for Binnscarth Woods. A wonderful oasis full of trees, trees and more trees. A crystal clear burn, carpets of wildflowers and an army of buzzing bees.

We then spent a happy few hours rummaging amongst the woodland glades, splashing through the burn and falling in the mud. Oh and we took lots of pictures of trees, very close up.

Worth noting that the black lab did his job well... no-one suspected that we were doing anything other than taking him for a walk.
