Waiting
We got up very early this morning to go to the whimbrel watch. We stood in the fog for hours.
Only one small flock of whimbrels circled at dawn. But we were rewarded by the sound of cormorant wings shshing overhead as thousands flew by in search of fish. If you look really closely at this picture and if you have really good eyes you can see a second line of cormorants at the top of the picture. There were literally cormorants as far as the eye could see.
I didn't mind that the whimbrels didn't come. We listened to the other birds, watched them tend to their nests and defend there territories. I found a fledgling Red-winged blackbird that was hidden in a bush calling for food. We chatted with our fellow birders, sharing birding lore as we waited (and waited).
Later a really good, much needed, long nap and dinner out to round off the weekend. It we can do it, we'll get up early and try to catch the migration before work tomorrow! We are obsessed!
So, I have to say that I'm very happy with all of the positive comments and faves on yesterday's blip. It's really wonderful to share what I see and find out that other people like to see it too. Thank you.
