Strange Growths

I saw these strange purple fuschia (thank you, C) things growing on a bush this morning. They're very small -- the longest ones are about 3 cm long. I've never seen them before, and I've no idea what they are. My research assistant, C, will no doubt find out for me while I'm away on another GGW* trip to Orcas Island. There probably won't be any blips from me until after I return on Friday, but I will back-blip. There'll be plenty of bliportunities on Orcas with my petanque/pickleball friends.
