Gold Fever!
What a day!!!
Up at 4:30! Gather kids by 5:30! Made it to LAX by 6:45! Fly to Sacramento!
We saw the capitol building, Sutter's Fort, Sutter's Mill, and went panning for gold. Panning for gold and gems was my favorite! Very relaxing. I could do that as a hobby. Maybe get one in my backyard. We collected teeny tiny flecks of REAL gold and a few birthstone gems in little vials and cute little leather pouches.
It was Victoria's first airplane flight! She was not very excited when her ears started hurting. She's getting a cold, so that doesn't help. Poor Victoria!
Our host did very well entertaining the kids on the bus. He asked them riddles and they were tenacious to solve them! "Which candle burns longer, a red one or a green one?" "How many jumps does a paratrooper have to complete before he graduates?" (answers below) They showed a great Charlie Brown cartoon about the Transcontinental Railroad.
The flight home was hysterical. The stewards and stewardess were cracking jokes all the way. They let two of our teachers hand out the peanuts and pretzels! They even gave them plastic wing pins on their way out! All the kids sang the songs from the play they did last week! I felt bad for the 20 or so regular passengers, although most didn't seem to mind. There were two schools of fourth graders on board - about 100 kids!
We made it home by 10:30. Wiped out! I slept in this morning....
And also, my dang camera broke! This one's from Victoria's camera, which I will be stealing until mine is fixed. It had a black fuzzy mark in the middle of the picture and I just had to mess with it to "clean" it off and by the time I was done "fixing" it, the bottom 3/4ths of the picture shows up black!! Argh.
1. neither - candles burn shorter, not longer.
2. He needs to complete all of them!
