an old cynic's view

Stirling Castle

Apart from the obvious historical significance this place holds special memories for me.
Almost 3 years ago I was visiting the castle wth my 88 year old father and friends of his from Holland and as you can imagine I was concerned that the climb would be to too much for my old Dad.
Well I shouldn't have worried about him because it was me who suffered what I thought at the time was another heart attack.
The ambulance was called by castle staff, who I must say were brilliant, and I was whipped away to Stirling Royal hospital for an overnight stay.
In fact I would not be surprised if the whole event was on here somewhere lol.
It was a bad Angina atack and I was OK.
What happened the next morning was disturbing to say the least.
After being X-rayed the consultant came back and said "did you now you have a shadow on your lung".
I had no idea what it was and after scans and being subjected to rigorous breathing tests in the following weeks it was diagnosed as Asbestosis.
I picked this up in shipyards and heavy engineering in the 60s and early 70s when we had to work with this vile stuff without any safety masks,in fact they gave us asbestos gloves when we were working with any hot metals.
Almost 3 years on and my compensation claim is still going on and should be hearing of a court date shortly when people will try to defend the obscenity of a company making us work with this material
How do you defend the indefensable????
Still blipping makes up for my love of golf being taken away from me.
