excubated

Off the drip, monitor switched off, out of the incubator and into a normal cot, wearing clothes now that the movement of his chest no longer needs to be visible. The only remaining problems are a slight dryness about the feet (exacerbated slightly by the plaster holding the oxygen monitor in place) and the fact that he's the only baby in the ward without a name yet, according to the whiteboard at the staff station. One of the attending midwives yesterday was being perhaps a little bit too keen to suggest things - there's always a risk when someone starts suggesting things that you'll screw your face up at something really distasteful that they're suggesting because they really like it and so named all five of their sons. One of the things I brought in today was the list of potential scribbled semi-vetted names which had been on the side of the fridge. There are a couple which sort of look suitable but we'll test and make certain before getting too attached to anything in case he stops looking like something when he gets a bit more active and his face goes a bit more mobile.
