Pattern and Contrast
Spring weekend pattern. Birding, napping, errands, napping.
City living contrast. Nature and solitude. Day to day living: business, crowds, sprawl, concrete.
This morning we met a new birding friend and tramped around and found some wonderful birds in the home stretch of this spring's migration. The leaves are out so it's harder to see the birds but still wonderful to hear them. We found nests, a bit of a blue robin's egg, flowers and a few birds we don't often see: Mourning, Canada, Bay-breasted and female Common Yellowthroat warblers.
This afternoon I drove to the north of the city to shop in the big box stores for towel rods and hardware necessities for our bathroom renovation. The gray ugliness of the sprawling big box stores seem to go on forever.
But in the midst of the grayness I found intriguing patterns which I thought were lovely. Like the pattern of mud on this van. And it reminded me of the beauty of the morning.
And tomorrow the pattern repeats. I'm getting up at 5:30 to count birds for a scientific study. I'm dreading getting up so early, but it should be wonderful.
And maybe...if I can keep my eyes open, I'll be able to catch up with everyone here and actually get to comments!
