Just Hanging Out

Couple microwaved in a car - that's what it felt like on the journey home today.
It was hot and cloudy when we packed up and left the Steading in Boat of Garten this morning. We felt it was early enough to have a last coffee in the Mountain cafe in Aviemore before we hit the A9. It was busier in the town than it's been all week and we wondered if it was a holiday in Glasgow this weekend, there being so many bodies wandering the streets.

As we drove south the clouds disappeared and the temperature soared.
We were making a detour via Forfar to have lunch with his Lordship's cousin and his wife and by the time we had a pit stop in Blairgowrie, all the world was out in shorts and t-shirts licking ice creams and sitting at outside cafes sipping beers.

We had planned at some point to find a shady stopping point on the road to sit and read the papers, but cars have a terrible tendency to keep going, missing every possible parking space, until there are none left. And so it was - no shady leafy picnic spot and we arrived in Forfar a bit early.

But no matter, it wasn't long before we all met up and found our way to the Drover's Inn at Memus where it was lovely to find the interior cool and shady.
We ate and talked while listening to a saxophonist playing out in the garden.

When it was time to leave and hit the road again, the car windows remained open, to cool us down. I can't remember ever being this hot in a car in Scotland before.
However far be it for me to complain. If this heatwave continues, I just want to be outside not melting into a car seat.

We've really enjoyed our week away in the highlands, but we are happy to be back home.

PS These clothes pegs dangled invitingly on a clothes line in the Steading garden, but remained unused...... our dirty washing is never aired in public.
