Dolphin cruise
This morning, Roger and I cycled to and around the J. N. Ding Darling Wildlife refuge, while the others played tennis and hung out on the beach. It was a good ride, though we didnt have any great bird sightings, and the road in the refuge was pretty rough, so we got a vibro-massage at the same time! Late afternoon we drove up to Captiva Island and went on a Dolphin Cruise. It took the captain a while to find some, and we had visions of it being a repeat of a whale watching trip we once took in Maine, with a "95% chance of sighting whales" - you've guessed it - we were the 5%! However we did eventually find them and we were encouraged to make plenty of noise - calling, singing, clapping etc., as they have found this encourages the dolphins to keep swimming alongside the boat. There were these two cute little kids who were singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Take me out to the Ball Game - so precious! Anyway, something worked, as they kept swimming alongside for a while, first on one side and then the other. In the evening we went out for an end of vacation celebration dinner a day early, as the restaurant we were planning to go to had an hour and a half wait when we tried to go there last Saturday night, and so we figured Friday night would probably be the same. It's right on the beach in Captiva - a great spot for catching the sunset - unfortunately it was already past its best by the time we got there, but the food was still good!
Best seen in large.
