Swimming Against The Tide

Iron : Man

Another evening concert in Birmingham, at Symphony Hall (see 27th April blip)! The programme was Mozart's "Prague" Symphony, Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. Great concert - the cellist (Johannes Moser) was particularly fine and treated us to an encore too (the Sarabande from Bach's first Cello Suite).

Before the concert the Wonderspouse & I went for a walk and a coffee. Being Gormley fans (we've happily driven from Oxfordshire to see The Angel of the North (Gateshead) and Another Place (Crosby, nr Liverpool)) we were instantly drawn to this statue!

The plaque at his feet reads:

IRON : MAN
by Antony Gormley
A gift from TSB
to the people of Birmingham
to mark TSB Bank plc's
relocation to the City
2nd March 1993

The building behind him is Birmingham Town Hall, where I have also recently been to a concert (see 24th April blip).

Neither of us felt the least bit like going out last night, but we're very glad we went. A good concert, and a lovely evening out!
