Backyard Safari

The Jed Water flows right behind our house. Well, right behind and about 40 metres down wooded sandstone crags. Anyhow, Tommy had been on a bughunt with the school earlier and had been pretty excited so after he became bored with learning to ride his bike down the Glebe I took him on a "safari" down the river to see what we could find.

There were bugs and butterflies, ducklings & dandelions, sticklebacks and salmon. What excited him most was throwing rocks into the river though.

What excited me though was not the heron which caught my eye at the time but the concrete structure in the background. It's a fish ladder to help salmon (and other fish) get past the cauld (weir). I never knew it was right behind our house. Apparently there's another one in better condition further downstream.

I've got some backblips too.
