the south-facing exterior wall of the mexican art gallery at the corner of Wells and Huron is clad in these enormous wood boards -some of which must be close to 2 feet wide. their texture and patina is absolutely gorgeous. their coursing is pretty random but joints are surprisingly precise. i kind of wish the whole building was clad like this -or the whole block for that matter. it's sort of amazing.
