Family history.
This photograph was taken in 1895. My Grandfather is forth from the right, second row up, aged 14 years. My Great Grandfather is the man standing at the left aged about 37 years. They are both brass finishers, with Grandfather an apprentice and Great Grandfather the Foreman over him.
It was a hard life as my Grandfather was the second of ten children, and they all lived in a two bedroomed flat.Five boys shared one bedroom, Three girls shared another and the parents and two little boys slept in the living/dining room/kitchen.
I feel privileged to know so much about their lives together, although I have only recently gained the information.
We're away for a week to Southern Scotland tomorrow. I hope the weather warms up a little.
