the 5,239 steps

As an analysis of the data in my portable telephone's step counter facility would show, my journey to work would usually be anywhere from 2,200 to 2,500 steps, varying according to which route-variant was taken, how fast I was going and whether or not I'd had time or need to divert past something like a coffee-outlet or an oatcake-shop or an interesting thing of some kind. The route home from work would vary wildly as the time available to subject myself to diversions was much greater. The doubling of the journey distance and more-than-doubling of the journey time (due to the greatly increased quantity of pedestrian-impeding traffic-favouring road-crossings encountered) will make bicycling much more effective (whereas previously it would take almost as long door-to-desk to cycle as to walk given the greater percentage of stationary time-wastage due to bicycle storage/locking and traffic-signal observance over short journeys) but whilst I chose the straightest and most direct route this morning to get a baseline for future measurement there's no way I'd cycle that way given the frequency of anti-cyclist manoeuvres perpetrated by various motorists in such a short time on such a shortish stretch of road. Even along the shorter and quieter route to work from the flat it was hardly ever worth cycling in after 07:23 as the cars multiplied too rapidly after that to make cycling even remotely enjoyable. What will probably happen is that I'll end up taking a nice roundabout route in, taking as much time as it would take to walk directly but breathing in far fewer traffic-fumes hopefully forcing me to try and carry a bit less crap.

We'd almost wandered along to the mosque kitchen for 12:00 yesterday by mistake as I'd wronged-up the dates somewhere. I usually have to try and remember to not eat too much in the mornings of mosque luncheon days but haven't yet enabled the freezer in order to be able to take muffins to work and only had a couple of packets of desk-oatcakes remaining and ended up mildly hungry by the time it came to wandering-over time, bagging another 2,200 steps or so each way. As with the last couple of these events they've unfortunately occurred on a day slightly noticeably colder than the immediately preceding days but just meant that everyone left their coats or jumpers on this time whereas there was a noticeable amount of stuffing-hands-up-sleeves the previous month. Pleasant to speak to people. It's also relatively pleasing that the getting-the-cameras-out thing occurs later and later. I only unshipped mine when most other people already had and then only got an unusable shot of a bit of Red's face and the back of TFP's head. I also ended up with an underexposed shot of StevieFish after bumping into him on an experimental route home when I decided to attempt to use M rather than S with a bit of exposure compensation.
