Jail Time

Today after class I saw my friend. She told me she was going to an extra credit teach-in about the corrupt prison system in California and how people are getting life sentences for dumb reasons like stealing socks because of the three-strikes law. I decided to go with her because it sounded interesting. The professor had three ex-convicts come and talk to us about their experiences. One guy said that he might even be sent back on the day that he was talking to us because he got out on a technicality after 22 years in jail. He had been in jail longer than I'd been alive and did not even know what email was until recently. Amazing and sad.
