Northern Exposure

Steam power.

Woke up feeling yuch this morning, just a cold but it made the thought of heading off to do a days work even more horrid. But had to be done and all went well so not too bad a day really.

When I finished I was handed a blip opportunity on a plate. The Vintage vehicle club were having their annual Science festival meeting on the Kirk Green so I had a good wander around there. All sorts of things - motor bikes, 70s classic sports cars, rollers, Model Ts, and of course... tractors. It always amazes me how good old tractors can look (sorry, that's a bit sad isn't it?).

This is one of the 4 or 5 steam engines that were lined up along the street side of the green. This is the main route through the centre of Kirkwall and nobody thinks twice of roping half of it off on a Saturday afternoon and letting folk fire up some ancient machinery. The smell was great... so were the loud bangs that went off every now and again.

I am now going to give in to my cold and curl up on the sofa with a dram and watch telly. Hmmm, wonder if there is any chocolate in the house...
