Not as peaceful as it looks!

Today was the big day of the Es Firo festivities which have lasted all weekend. I was warned about what to expect but I underestimated just how loud and dirty it would be. The whole town dresses up as either a Moor or a Christian ready to commence battle at the port and then make their way to the town for more battle. It is not for the faint hearted! It is very, very loud and everyone gets very, very drunk!

After a long day at the battle scene we missed the tram to take us back to the town centre where we live so had to walk the few kilometres with 2 very tired little girls. The sun was just setting and the mountains looked beautiful. The town is just nestled in there somewhere and all we could hear was the battle going on in the town square...so all was not as peaceful as it looks. We reached the square and it was utter mayhem...and my 6 year old had lost all her bravado and broke down in tears. I kinda felt like doing that too! The street cleaners will have a job on there hands tomorrow while the town sleeps!
p.s. The gun fire is still going on...another sleepless night!
